48 dead in Himachal Pradesh Landslide in distt. Mandi

Rescue Operation  
MANDI: Around 48 people were killed and several people injured after a massive land slide occurred on Manali - Pathankot state highway. Two government HRTC roadways buses and several private vehicles buried on Sunday. The official said the number of people may cross over 60 people who were killed were traveling in two buses hit by the landslide at Kotpuri near Padhar on Mandi-Pathankot national highway.

As per officials, 48 bodies were recovered and 23 has been identified.

The rescue operation was suspended in the late evening as there were apprehensions of more landslides. The rescue operation will resume today.

The team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Army and the Police were sent in and heavy earth-moving machinery called in the gorge where two buses were buried under the heap of debris.

Chief minister visited Virbhadra Singh visited the spot and said the rescue operation will go endlessly till the last body is not recovered. C.M. said state government will bear all the medical expenses of injured people. C.M. Virbhadra Singh also met the family members of victims. C.M. Virbhadra Singh announced Rs. 5 lakh compensation for the family of those killed in this tragedy.
